STVRs and Community Sentiment in Pierpont
Currently the city of Ventura allows for Short Term Rentals (STR)s also called Short Term Vacation Rentals (STVR)s in Pierpont which is zoned as a residential neighborhood. The Pierpont Community Council conducted a survey of the neighborhood sentiment on STRs late 2017. Over 40% of the community participated. The results was that nearly 70% of responders did not want STVRs to operate in Pierpont. This survey is currently being audited to validate the response.
Based on this survey, the PCC is positioned against STVRs operating in Pierpont because Pierpont is zoned as a residential neighborhood and STVRs are businesess that even under the best circumstances degrade the quality of life in the neighborhood and displace long term residents. The impact of their operation dispportionately affect their immediate neighbors. The PCC is not against Short Term Rentals as long as they operate outside of residential neighborhoods.
The vast majority over 70% of all vacation rentals in Ventura are located in Pierpont. Based on the city regulation, it is the neighbhorhoods responsibility to police these businesses.
